Free online file tools — no uploads, your files never leave your browser
Format conversion here is decode-then-re-encode, done locally: your browser reads the source image, draws it to a canvas, and writes it out in the target format at 92% quality. That is the same pipeline desktop converters use, minus the upload. HEIC files (iPhone photos) are decoded with a WebAssembly build of libheif — also locally.
Two conversions need a heads-up. Anything to JPEG flattens transparency onto white, because JPEG has no alpha channel. And GIF conversion captures the first frame only — for animated content you want a video tool, not an image converter.
| From / To | Typical reason |
|---|---|
| HEIC → JPG/PNG | iPhone photos that Windows, Android or websites cannot open |
| AVIF → JPG/PNG | New web images that older software refuses to display |
| WebP ↔ PNG/JPG | Moving between web-optimized and universally compatible formats |
